A former choir teacher comes full circle
In March 2024, founders Rena and JB Alexander sold K-9 Wash-N-Go to a former customer and employee from over 20 years ago.
"Hi, I'm Heather. I'm a former choir teacher turned full-time dog groomer, passionate animal lover, and co-owner of K-9 Wash-N-Go in Boise, Idaho.
My grooming journey started in the most unexpected way. In 2002, while teaching choir at East and Hillside Junior Highs, I couldn't find an affordable, trustworthy groomer for my Springer Spaniel. So I started grooming at home. After one too many messy clean-ups, a friend told me about a new self-service dog wash nearby where I could groom and use all of their equipment. That place was K-9 Wash-N-Go, and from the moment I walked in, I was hooked.
I grew up grooming my own Westies, thanks to my grandparents, who raised and showed Westies and Scotties. The owner noticed my skills and patience and invited me to help out on weekends and summers. I spent years learning from the pros, helping customers, and refining my technique.
In 2014, my husband built me a custom grooming station at home, and things took off. By 2019, I had left teaching and launched my own grooming business: Desert Oasis Grooming, better known as DOG.
Then, in early 2024, life came full circle. After years of joking with the original owner about buying the business someday, the chance became real, and I couldn't resist. With the support of my husband Josh, we officially took over K-9 Wash-N-Go on March 30, 2024.
Now I split my time between DOG and K-9 Wash-N-Go, blending professional grooming with our beloved self-wash model. Whether you're a seasoned dog parent or new to grooming, I'm here to make sure every pup leaves feeling (and smelling!) their best.
